Rosa M Hessling was born in 1954 in Zell/Mosel, Germany, where she lives and works.
The paintings of Rosa M Hessling are characterized by subtleness and restraint, nevertheless they radiate intenseness and power. For some time now, the artist has focused on the phenomenon of light perception as color. By using special pigments in combination with lacquer, she succeeds in creating color- and light-intense surfaces that do not conform to our experiential values. The many-layered presence of these paintings – the constant change they undergo – is revealed with every step the viewer takes before them and as light temperatures in the environment vary. This metamorphosis can only be experienced by those who engage with the subtle, mostly metallic, shimmering surfaces. Only then does the viewer notice the changing colors, which may even involve a complete alteration in the basic color of the picture. Her most recent pictures are painted on reflective glass and appear to radiate from within.
